Why Seasonal?

Put simply, we believe that food tastes best when it’s grown in the natural place at the natural time. That means we love eating British food when it’s in season - Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter.

First things first. It's not that we don’t enjoy food from overseas - you'll be hard pushed to prize a steamed pork bun out of our hands - but for too long the great British public has been fed a diet of tasteless tomatoes and anaemic apples simply because that’s what the supermarkets can import cheaply all year round. We know there are some weighty issues at work but Britain's farmers and growers produce great food each and every season and we are just not taking full advantage of it; they deserve to be championed and their produce deserves to be eaten and we, with you, are the people who are going to do it.

We're not evangelical foodie lunatics - if you want to buy a green beans or plums in December that should be your choice - but it is a fact that if you buy food that is imported or artificially grown at the wrong time of year, you're going to be making a sacrifice in terms of taste, cost, nutrition, environmental impact and quality. Well Seasoned rejects the October strawberry in favour of the delicious raspberry. Peruvian asparagus in August? Stick it in your pan pipes.

And as you know, we're not just interested in our food. Britain is one of the most seasonal countries in the world and everything we do, be it wrapping up warm to watch the football on a cold winter's day or getting unexpectedly soaked to the skin in the middle of an April afternoon , is determined by our seasons. We live seasonally so why not eat seasonally? At Well Seasoned, we will be sharing all of our best seasonal action and hope that we'll be hearing about some of yours.

You've probably got the message by now, so get out there, start eating and remember........keep it seasonal.
